Classic car full restoration
A full restoration is one of the most considered decisions a classic car owner makes. We treat it that way.
You may have owned the car for years and finally decided the time is right. You may have bought a project that needs far more than you expected. Either way, you have come to the right place.
At Luke Martin Coachworks, a full restoration starts with a conversation – about what the car needs, what can be saved, what needs replacing, and, just as importantly, your vision and requirements. We assess the vehicle properly before we make any promises.
What a classic car full restoration involves
A full restoration takes the vehicle back to its foundations and rebuilds it properly, stage by stage. Depending on the car and its condition, that can include:
Strip-down and detailed cataloguing of every component
Assessment of what is original, what has been modified, and what has been previously repaired
Removal of paint, filler and underseal
Bodywork, welding and structural repair
Panel fabrication and alignment
Paint preparation and refinishing
Mechanical rebuild or refurbishment
Reassembly with worn parts replaced as needed

Each stage affects the next. That is why sequencing and planning matter as much as the quality of the work itself. For a detailed look at how we work through a restoration, see our Classic Car Restoration Process page.
The body has to come first
The most common and costly mistake in restoration is spending money in the wrong area or order. It is tempting to start with the engine, the paint or the interior – the parts you can see and feel progress on. But if the body shell is carrying hidden corrosion, old filler or poor previous repairs, everything on top is built on an unreliable foundations.
Originality, character and what the car means to you
Every owner brings their own intentions to a restoration. Some want the car returned as close to factory specification as possible, preserving provenance and originality above all else. Others want a reliable, usable classic that has been thoughtfully updated in the areas that matter most for regular road use.
Neither approach is wrong. What matters is that the restoration plan reflects what you actually want from the car, and that decisions about what to keep, what to refurbish and what to remake are made deliberately – not by default.
We will talk all of this through with you before any work begins.
