Restoration of Ferrari 275 GTB
The Ferrari came to us as a complete car in need of servicing.
However, there were some body work issues that needed attending to. As we removed the paint on the boot floor, we realised there was severe corrosion in the shell and some very poor previous repairs. We informed the owner and they decided to have the car fully restored.
The first stage was to strip and catalogue the parts on the car. We then set about stripping the paint and filler. The majority of the panels on this car are steel and quite thin steel at that. The chassis sections are made up of tubular sections and the floor panel and front firewall are fibreglass. Together this provides a very strong but light structure which is ideal for a sports car.
After removing the fibreglass sections the body was send for blasting. This exposed the full extent of the corrosion so we could refine the plan for what needed repair or replacement. The chassis sections and outriggers were fabricated inhouse and then welded in place using a jig and factory measurements.
The external panels were then fabricated, including a complete new nose section and grille, full boot floor and lower quarters, sills, inner wheel arches and boot skin. We also completely stripped back the fibreglass floor and bulkhead and made repairs where necessary.
Once we were happy with the shell we trial fitted the doors, bonnet and boot lid with the seals to make sure we could obtain a perfect door shut and gaps. The shell was then prepped for paint and painted in its original metallic silver. This car benefitted from a complete nut and boot rebuild including the engine, drive train and interior.
We were lucky enough to take the completed car to Salon Prive and show it with other 275’s.
