A full restoration takes the vehicle back to its foundations and rebuilds it properly, stage by stage. Depending on the car and its condition, that can include:

The body has to come first
The most common and costly mistake in restoration is spending money in the wrong area or order. It is tempting to start with the engine, the paint or the interior – the parts you can see and feel progress on. But if the body shell is carrying hidden corrosion, old filler or poor previous repairs, everything on top is built on an unreliable foundations.
Originality, character and what the car means to you
Every owner brings their own intentions to a restoration. Some want the car returned as close to factory specification as possible, preserving provenance and originality above all else. Others want a reliable, usable classic that has been thoughtfully updated in the areas that matter most for regular road use.
Neither approach is wrong. What matters is that the restoration plan reflects what you actually want from the car, and that decisions about what to keep, what to refurbish and what to remake are made deliberately – not by default.
