Classic car servicing

A classic car is not just an older version of a modern one. It needs to be understood, not just maintained.

High-performance engine repair and restoration at Luke Martin Coachworks, specialising in classic an.

The approach we take to classic car servicing is built on decades of working with historic vehicles and the people who love them. Every car we see is different — in age, in condition, in how it is used and how it has been cared for. We take the time to understand yours before we touch it.

That means a test drive where possible, a proper look underneath and a full inspection of the key areas. Not just a checklist ticked off at speed.

We will always work to maintain originality, through specialist restoration and maintenance of existing parts, rather than replacement wherever possible.

Why regular servicing matters more for a classic

Many classic cars are MOT exempt, which makes it easy to let a service and safety checks slip. But age works on a vehicle whether  ithas been in storage over winter (or longer), it comes out for sunny summer weekends, or it’s your daily driver. Seals dry out, fluids degrade, corrosion creeps into brake lines and body seams without anyone noticing.

A regular service (we recommend annually) is one of the best opportunities to catch smaller problems before they become expensive ones. In our experience, a routine check can sometimes reveal bodyshell issues or deeper mechanical issues that are far better dealt with early.

We will always talk you through anything we find before proceeding.

What a classic car service typically includes.

Every car has its own requirements, but a thorough service will usually cover:

Engine oil, fluid levels and cooling system condition

Braking system

Steering and suspension

Wheel and tyre condition

Battery, charging system and electrics

Fuel system and ignition

Bodywork and corrosion points

We also recommend an MOT, as official evidence of road worthiness
